WHAT IS SACRED ART?

Sacred Art at its core is the Divine dance of all existence. Sacred Artists honor the source of all creation by illuminating pathways for us to recognize our connection to each other and all life. This is often represented through the act of collaboration, a melding of multiple viewpoints into a unified expression of art.

The visions that the artists dive so deeply to receive are translated with the highest of intention for the harmonizing of self & planet to our Divine Vibration.
The ultimate functions of Sacred Art are healing, transformation, and enlightenment.

WHY SACRED ART?

Sacred Art guides our progression as an awakening consciousness through visions which point to the absolute interconnection of all life.

Sacred Art inspires a deepened engagement with the ongoing process of creation and evolution within ourselves, exponentiating our capacity to recognize the Divine potential to manifest dreams into reality.

LIVE PAINTING AUCTION

Paintings created at Beloved harness the ecstatic vibrations of the people, the music and the collective field. This artwork is available for auction at the festival, and will continue to shine forth the light which is generated through this convergence of souls.

In experiencing the creation of sacred art, we are given secret cosmological keys to the grand mysteries, allowed to watch them unfurl before our eyes.

“My life has been devoted to the Fine Arts as well as the Healing Arts, and the integration of the two. I have been oil painting for fifteen years and my art has been exhibited in galleries and other venues in the U.S. and Europe. I am co-founder of the collaborative arts collective, Dreaming Co:nexus and the cultural arts organization, Art Spirit Now. My aim is to create art that reflects a healed perspective and inspires conscious evolution in the individual, while furthering the emergent global Visionary Art Movement.”

“The following beliefs are foundational to my work:

~That the highest function of a Human is to love without condition, to express reverence for Earth and the Living Universe.
~That the highest function of Art is to illuminate the transcendental nature of all beings––our capacity to share an awakened consciousness, an evolved and harmoniously integrated existence with all life.

“It is my intention to create works of art that speak to that deeply emotional place at the heart of each person; wherein lies the highest unexpressed potential of a fully realized individual.  I hope to inspire others to examine their lives more deeply, to open their minds to infinite possibility and their hearts to limitless love.

“When the heart is open, one can deeply empathize with the emotions and experiences of other beings.  In this state of shared experience, one is no longer capable of causing harm, and even becomes driven to eliminate the suffering of other life forms, out of a great love and merciful compassion.  One becomes, in essence, a Bodhisattva (enlightened being).  The illusion of separation is dissolved, and the quantum reality of the interconnectedness of all matter and energy is realized.

“When I create, I maintain the awareness that each brushstroke, each layer of paint contains encoded information of a specific energetic state- my intention and state of being transmitted directly through the portal of the painting, to the receiver.  Therefore, I find it necessary to meditate upon the highest possible outcome- nothing less than the complete transformation of our entire species for the benefit of all life and the achievement of absolute peace.  I have used breath and sound (mantra) to influence the vibration of my creation, but ultimately, it is the creating as an act of devotion that renders the painting capable of transmitting a healing energy to the viewer.”

Autumn Skye Morrison

My purpose is to create. In that process I find stillness and rhythm, my teacher and passion. I believe that art can be a life shaking experience, or an intimate rendezvous. For me it is both. Placing intention in every creation, I aim to share honesty and awakening. To celebrate this fantastic adventure. To inspire and be inspired.

Starting with seeds of ideas, I work intuitively, not clinging to a preconceived outcome or a completed concept. Texture, colour, and mixed media bring the image into our physical space, creating an interactive and sensory experience. Each canvas takes me on a journey, and as my paintbrush follows, each time I am lead back to my center. Through exploration of "being woman" and "being human" I express my journey and my highest realization of who we are, through the language of paint.

In this shifting, and challenging Time, I aim to inspire those around me to see the boundless potential in the each moment. May my paintings be a mirror, a reflection of your universal light, your human essence, and your timeless divinity.

Autumn Skye lives and paints in her home North of Powell River, overlooking a sweeping expanse of ocean, islands, mountains, and sky. She considers herself among the blessed of the blessed, and lives each day in gratitude and joy of being able to share her art and inspiration.

Ben BartaBen Barta

In 1992 I began studying thangka painting with Sanje Elliott in Portland, Oregon.  Sanje became a guiding force in the realms of painting and dharma practice for me. Through his encouragement and inspiration I traveled to India and Nepal eventually taking refuge there and meeting many wonderful teachers.  After several trips to India, I made it to Gonjang Gompa near Darjeeling to study with the master painters Lama Tsondru Sangpo and Rigzin Norbu for several months. During this time much of the focus was on processing mineral and vegetable pigments and dyes, an element of thangka painting which is often very time consuming, expensive and  seldom employed in the west. Since that time I have continued dharma practice and painting, completing several commissioned thangkas and a year long retreat.

For most practitioners engaged in tantric deity practice it is very helpful to have a visual image that is correct according to the particular sadhana that one is practicing and at the same time inspiring. One that allows the mind to be deeply at rest and wide awake simultaneously through the clarity and the natural rhythm of form and color. It is with this intention and aspiration and the love and gratitude that has been instilled in me that I attempt to engage each painting.

There are different lineages or schools of painting within the Tibetan tradition. Each with its variants of color, tone and compositional flavor. The one that I adhere to is called Karma Ghadri or the camp style of the Karma Kagyu school. This refers to the camp culture of the early Karmapa lamas, in which large groups of followers would travel from place to place with them, camping along the way,  creating their own customs and traditions.  The seventh Karmapa, Chodrak Gyatso is particularly well known for this.  As far as the painting style itself is concerned, it incorporates elements from three principle countries. The forms were in accordance with Indian standards, the colors and texture, Chinese, and the composition, Tibetan. The painter Namka Tashi (from the court of the Ninth Karmapa) is credited for the birth of this style in the sixteenth century. The most extraordinary and inspiring of the Karma Ghadri painters to me personally however was Situ Panchen (1700-1774) who revived the Karma Ghadri style in the kingdom of Derge and was essentially a Tibetan “renaissance man” who excelled in many areas of his life.

Benjamin MossBenjamin Moss

Insidiously rising from the depths of the micro cosmic consciousness of Benjamin Moss has risen a continually unfolding series of visions. These visions have surfaced through ceremonial practices and trance dance states of being. Many which depict and create at the same time cosmic star beings and dancing serpent spirits in the deep jungle and astral planes.

Within the spectrum of blue to green and the humanoid female form the dance of the inner sight arises. Ze (a genderless pronoun) has dreamed deeply and fully to present these to the collective human experience here and now on Earth.

David HeskinDavid Heskin

David Heskin is an oil painter who looks to the beauty of the natural world for inspiration, in its infinitely subtle and intricate patterns. Forms in nature become a language in the geometry of consciousness at every scale. It is from this diversity of phenomenal lifeforms that Art emerges.

To employ traditional terms, David is self taught, though his ongoing education consists of a lifelong dedication to the intricate study of nature’s delicately balanced systems.

An emerging master painter, his artistic focus is to elegantly fuse the richness of traditional symbolic themes with the innovative spirit of a modern renaissance man.

David’s life is in service to drawing forth new visions which invite a wide audience to bask in the inspirational light of creativity.
David’s paintings are inventive in their forms as he has taken his art far beyond the limitations of the status quo, into an altogether unprecedented realm. By devising special techniques which allow his canvases to be constructed in nearly any shape, the form of the canvas itself becomes suited to adequately fulfill the depth of his visions.
In joyous exploration of creative freedom, elegant forms, curves and impossible angles emerge in his 2- and 3-dimensional paintings. This versatility spans genre and medium alike, allowing the artist full access to the brilliant splendor of unlimited creation.  Synthesizing with visionary artistry, imaginal and photorealistic subject matter is a triumphant aspiration to create artifacts and visual experiences which are otherwise unavailable to the human eye.

Recognizing the necessity and readiness in modern times for a conscious rebirthing of culture,  in 2009 David founded Art Spirit Now, an arts organization with the exhilarating declaration, “The Renaissance is Now”.

Eric NezEric Nez

Painting was a gift given to Eric Nez at an early age.  His parents (an artist and a Yogini, both lovers of life) ensured that he had plenty of tools to express his innermost realms.  A devoted artist-mystic, Nez is both a visionary and a cultivator of the soul.  Tending the garden of personal transformation… offering to the sacred self: nurturing environments, wholesome nutrients, divine light, and love in order to grow the fruit of the spirit and share it with the Universe.

The Muses of yoga, plant medicines, alchemy, and magic lay their offerings at the feet of Nez.  His creative process is deeply influenced by transpersonal psychology and the spiritual sciences, as well as intergalactic experiences.  The spirits of the mystics all gather around Eric's studio to whisper in his ear and guide his hand as he paints.

The art of Eric Nez is both a stepping-stone and a chronicle of his evolution of consciousness.  Explorations of distinctly different worlds, powerful life experiences, and teachings from ascended masters… all of these find a home in the work of Nez.  His every painting is offered up to the universal collective as a  catalyst for transformation.

Deeply influenced by the blissful, sacred experiences of life, Eric defines his work as the visual fruit of his own personal growth.  He considers himself a seeker- traversing many realms, translating and sharing the discoveries of his travels through the secret and ancient language of pictures.

Iska LhaJAH Ishka Lha

With her imagery, Ishka reveals a world of the eternal Beauty that is all things. A river of elementals, cosmic beings, and magical beasts swirl together in one great flood of light and shadow, emanating the shapes and colors illuminated within the Beloved’s kaleidoscope. With every turning of the wheel, an ever-changing cycle of Life appears. Dawn spills into the night sky, a blossom falls as a cherry grows; and the movement in our mind trickles down into a land where thoughts kneel before a pool of peaceful waters, watching silently, as Spirit emerges from the depths.

Ishka was born in 1982, and grew up in Northern California. She earned her Professional B.A. in Architecture (Cal Poly, SLO) in 2006. During her fourth year in college, she spent a year studying abroad in France, and traveled all over western Europe. Her experience of life outside the U.S. transformed her entire perception of art and community, and for the last five years she has been dedicated to the upliftment of humanity through art as a spiritual practice. ishkanexus.com

Meredith DittmarMeredith Dittmar

Meredith Dittmar is an artist living and playing in Portland OR. Born near Boston Mass, she grew up in a world of pet pigs, horses, hay-forts and spy games . Follow this with an education in computer science, a career in interactive design, a compulsive need to create, and a drive to Seek and you get the major elements of her person and work.

Dittmars human-animal-plant-energy amalgams contain threads of common elements and colors to express deep levels of union across themes of biology, technology, and consciousness . Her characters are frequently involved in quiet expressive moments, or lounge facing their audience so they can share their inner space. Dittmar believes it is this space we recognize in ourselves, and through convening in that space, the interconnectedness of all things is revealed. She sees the act of spontaneous artistic creation as part of a larger practice of being present, and a way to better understand herself and reality.

Dittmars work is featured in the books Dot dot Dash and Mascotte 2, along with numerous magazines and online publications. In conjunction with her artwork she works as an independent character designer and maintains her company Corporatepig, through which she continues to create thousands of unique handmade characters called "My Guys".

Nemo BokoNemo Boko

I am an artist deeply inspired by the mythic traditions of the world. I draw inspiration from ethnographic journals, museum catalogs, nature and ancient ruins. I feel that there is a connection between ancient tribal art and the mythic building blocks of human creativity. By exploring the myths and archetypes found around the world, one can begin to piece together the subconscious dream landscape of visual symbolism and chart its transformation through time, while empowering the modern with the primal fire of atavistic aesthetics.

I grew up in Miami and developed a love for exploring cultural diversity & interactions. I went to college to learn to become an international negotiator by triple majoring in Politics, Religion and East Asian Studies. After leaving my political career in Washington, DC, jaded but with priceless experiences, I moved to Boulder, CO to relax and find a new direction in an experimental hip hop team. A visionary experience set me on the path of art where I began to reintegrate my political aim of tolerance and diplomacy with my deeply rooted love of tribal and magickal arts.

Stevee PostmanStevee Postman

Stevee's visionary artwork has developed a cult following. His Cosmic Tribe Tarot has sold over 15,000 copies. His images have also appeared on The Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart’s CD Superlingua, astrologer Rob Brezny’s book The Televisionary Oracle, magazine covers for Gnosis and Magical Blend, event images for four years of Mind States conferences, calendars published by Soho Galleries and all the Beloved Flyers. He has also created all of the design language and imagery for every year of Beloved: Sacred Art & Music Festival.

Stevee is also the web and print designer for Beloved: Sacred Art & Music Festival. His images are created by taking initial photos, mixing, layering, and transmogrifying with Photoshop wizardry.

In the introduction to The Cosmic Tribe Tarot, Eric Ganther describes Postman’s images as "synthesized from a variety of cultural traditions… Stevee is less interested in the written strictures of a particular path, preferring to let the images, liberated from their cultural moorings, speak for themselves. In this way he draws on the treasure trove of the world’s images." stevee.com

Arun Arun

Arun Joseph-Ragan spent his awkward larval years in a series of Southern states before moving to the voluptuous garden of Portland Oregon. Here he found the intricately interwoven family of dancers, devotees, Devas and Daemons that encourage his perpetual process of mutation.

Arun will be presenting fabrics that he printed with images that he drew by hand. These icons were inspired by the pantheon of forces that animate the many worlds within and around us, as they reveal themselves through one peculiar nervous system. thearuniverse.com

Somniative is the pseudonym for Christopher Reitmaier--a maker of things--whose raw materials are culled from places both near and far where the discarded and unused lie, awaiting the return to the realm of human caring in celebration of life, beauty, freedom, and joy.

It is thru the merger of these materials and the magic that they endure that trifling pieces of finery are created. May they bring you joy. www.somniative.com
